Challenge
Working alongside FKM Group, we were contracted by the design team working with Zalando to develop and manufacture a tailor-made office furniture solution for their large open offices.
This project presented us with a unique set of challenges. Not only was the initial building on Barrow Street listed, requiring careful attention to detail and project management, but Zalando already had expansion plans in the pipeline. This meant that the furniture had to grow alongside Zalando’s ambitious expansion plans whilst being appropriate for a listed building.
The furniture specification for the project included both standard and height adjustable sit/stand desking that could accommodate company expansion plans and a redeployment to the new location at Grand Canal Dock. For our design team, this meant that our desking needed to be as adaptable and robust as possible to ensure that moving, expanding and reconfiguring the desking, in line with Zalando’s team, could happen with ease.
In addition, Zalando wanted their furniture to say something about them and their culture, endorsing their brand and image – run-of-the-mill desking was not an option.
Solution
Using the curves of the trademark Zalando triangle as inspiration, we developed a tailored workstation cladding from responsibly sourced materials to personalise the desking to their brand. The cladding system complements the use of orange throughout, evoking the brand atmospherically. We also installed both sit/stand and fixed height workstations, ensuring that the aesthetic throughout the office remained constant and considered.
Our solution was optimised for Zalando’s move to 3GCQ, their new flagship Dublin office. The move from Barrow Street was undertaken by our trusted partner Officecare over the course of just one day. Designed with change in mind, the desking system was broken down, transported and rebuilt with ease, with the headcount doubled at the new location. This was all achieved using minimum extra components and on an extremely tight schedule.
