Challenge
Each tenement building has its own entrance from the street, with separately owned retail units below. Originally constructed in the late 18th century, the property is Grade B (II) listed. It currently accommodates 71 students, comprising of 56 studios (including five dual-occupancy studios) and 12 apartments with two or four beds.
The building is located directly opposite Old College, the historic centrepiece of the University of Edinburgh. The location offers immediate access to all university buildings, as well as convenient proximity to the city centre and Edinburgh’s Waverley Station, which is less than a ten-minute walk away.
Solution
The building was refurbished by main contractors Clark Contracts and furnished by Farrell. Following completion, Hello Student took over its management.
The project was completed in time for the start of the 2022/2023 academic year, resulting in a modern and stylish student development within the period building. It was one of two major schemes undertaken by Farrell in Edinburgh.
